RENO, Nev. – The Nevada women’s basketball team will host Nortre Dame de Namur in an exhibition contest on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.. The game will take place at Lawlor Events Center and is free to the public. The Wolf Pack is coming off its most successful season in school history, finishing 22-11 on the year and winning its first ever postseason tournament game in the WNIT last year. The Argonauts finished the 2010-2011 season at 5-11 in the PacWest and 8-17 overall under coach Mike Rudder.
Nevada will be led by seniors Amanda Johnson and Kayla Williams. Johnson led the WAC in assists per game (4.48) last season and ranked second in assist/turnover ratio (1.74), while Williams collected eight double-doubles on the season, including a career-high 20 rebounds against Pepperdine. Fellow senior Kate Kevorken will also be prepared to take on an important role with the team after starting in place of the injured senior Shavon Moore at the end of last season. After Moore’s injury, Kevorken started four of the final five games, averaging 6.8 rebounds and 8.6 points per game. The Wolf Pack will be a young team, having lost six seniors and seven letterwinners total. The Pack lost two WAC first-teamers in Tahnee Robinson and Shavon Moore.
Nevada has five newcomers joining the squad this year, all of whom are true freshmen. The freshman class adds two guards, two forwards and a center.
“The returners and newcomers have responded with an incredible and productive off-season,” Head coach Jane Albright said. “What we lack as a unit in game experience we will make up for in time, talent, and effort.”
Jane Albright is in her fourth year leading the Wolf Pack and 28th overall. She is 36th among active NCAA Division I coaches in victories with a career record of 454-353, and 57-41 at Nevada.
The Pack begins the regular season at home against Saint Martin’s on Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center. Season tickets start at $40 and are available now by going to official website at NevadaWolfPack.com or calling (775) 348-PACK, option 2.
